ZetaPlus – The simplest, easiest to use Zeta Potential Analyser

The Brookhaven ZetaPlus is designed for rapid , accurate and, above all, straightforward determination of zeta potential and electrophoretic mobility of fine particles from around 5nm up to about 50µm. Its principle is the measurement of the Doppler shifted frequency spectrum of scattered laser light using a known reference frequency for maximum accuracy.

The key attraction of the ZetaPlus is its simplicity of operation due to the innovative design of its sample cell – electrode assembly. Using low cost, disposable cuvettes* and simple "plug-in" electrodes, it completely eliminates the problem of electroosmosis – for all samples. With this system, cell alignment with respect to the laser beam is no longer critical and therefore requires no periodic checking or adjustment. Bubble-free filling of the cell is easy and fast and the volume of sample required is minimal.

Sample temperature is accurately controlled by a fast response dual-Peltier system operating in the range 50C to 750C. For most common liquid media, necessary physical constants are all pre-programmed throughout the temperature range. pH can be read directly into the ZetaPlus software. Zeta potentials can be automatically plotted against pH or any other variable of the user’s choice, such as surfactant or additive concentration.

For submicron particle size distribution analysis, all the features of the Brookhaven 90Plus can be added at any time. Availability of two scattering angles, 900 or 150, enables both size and zeta potential measurements to be made in the same cell without changing the sample.

The ZetaPlus shows the complete spectrum of zeta potentials within the sample enabling mixed populations "bimodals", should they exist, to be resolved.

* Alternatively glass or quartz cells can be used where necessary for sample compatibility
