Dynamic Light Scattering (also called PCS) provides a fast, simple method for submicron particle sizing. Random intensity fluctuations in scattered laser light arising from the Brownian motion of colloidal particles are analysed to give either a simple mean size and polydispersity (distribution width) or complete distribution data even for multimodal distributions.

Rapid, Reliable and Accurate Analysis

The Brookhaven 90Plus particle sizer incorporates all you need for fast, routine, submicron measurements.

Using Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), most measurements take only a minute or two. The built-in computer has ample power for the Windows™-based software and an external computer option is available if preferred. The standard 35 mW diode laser coupled with the optional avalanche photo diode (APD) detector gives exceptional sensitivity and is ideal for weak and strong scatterers alike.

Either or both of the BI-Zeta and BI-PALS options for zeta potential measurements can be fitted from new or, if preferred, added later.

For most samples, low cost plastic disposable cells can be used, requiring about 2-3mL of dilute sample. Round or square glass cells are also available. Small volume cells ranging from as low as 10µL through 50 µL disposable to 300 µL can also be used.

Typical applications of the 90Plus include polymer colloids (latex), liposomes, emulsions and microemulsions, pharmaceuticals, pigments, toners.
